The Liturgy Ministries

The following is a brief  listing of the Ministries of the Liturgy Board at St. Julie Billiart parish. Now members are always welcome.

 

Altar Servers -

Servers assist the priest during Mass and other celebrations. Boys and girls in grades 5 thru 8 are invited to a training session. Assignment based on availability.

Art and Environment

Members decorate the Church, Chapel and Narthex for the liturgical seasons. Parishioners with willingness to give some time to decorating and to share their ideas and talents of creativity, decorating, sewing, flower arranging are always welcome. " God's Garden Growers" looking for green thumbs to help plant, weed, prune and water outside flowers.

Liturgical Writers

Members of the community who are willing to use their interest in liturgy to help plan and surface creative ideas to enhance the liturgical seasons.

Children's Liturgy Presiders and Assistants

Assistants are those who help with the children if needed. High School students are also welcome to assist with the children. Anyone interested and skilled in writing some reflections and stories of Jesus is also invited to help prepare the material.

Greeters

Greeters welcome people to St. Julie and provide some personal contact to improve the spirit of our community. Greeters need to arrive about 20 minutes before mass and be ready to offer a smile and friendly greeting to those entering. Families, as well as individuals or couples are welcome.

Ushers

Parishioners, usually assigned to one mass each Sunday, worship with the assembly at the Mass they attend. They greet people, help people find seats, take up the collection, find people to bring up the gifts, assist with keeping services orderly, distribute bulletins at the end of mass and be watchful of any emergency situation.

 

Senior Servers

Senior altar servers are generally retired men who are available during the day to serve at funeral masses or other special services, such as the Remembering Mass or Anointing of the Sick. Training is provided and three men are schedule for each service.

 

Lectors

Parishioners who worship regularly with the community may wish to proclaim the Word of God during Mass. Lectors must be comfortable speaking before a group. Training is provided for those interested and preparation time is expected for this ministry.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers serve the community through the distribution of Holy Communion during Sunday, Holy Day, and Sacramental Eucharistic celebrations. These ministers must be practicing Catholics who worship regularly with the community. Training is provided as well as on-going ministry enrichment. Ministers are scheduled for particular masses based on availability.

Adult Christian Initiation

A group of faith-filled parishioners consisting of a team of leaders, catechists and sponsors who journey with those who wish to be baptized or complete their Christian Initiation.

Wedding Facilitators

Individuals or couples willing to assist couples getting married, bridal couples and families. Facilitators attend rehearsals to instruct everyone and are also present on the wedding day to set up and prepare for the celebration. It is an enjoyable time in the lives of parishioners and a rewarding experience for facilitators. Training is provided initially, and materials for each wedding are available to assist in rehearsing.

 

Liturgical Dancer

Liturgical Dancers are girls from Grades 5 and up who enhance the celebration of special liturgies, such as the Sacrament of Baptism, and other events at St. Julie through prayerful movement and gesture.


Baptism Garment Makers

 Individuals who make the garments for the babies baptized at St. Julie. Ministry involves, tracing, cutting and fabric painting from a pattern.

Devotional Prayer

Comprised of a group of men and women who provide special opportunities for prayer. These may include Thursday Adoration, morning Rosary, etc.

Baptism Greeters and Commentators

Baptisms are celebrated one or two Sundays a month. Greeters are individuals who arrive half an hour before baptisms to welcome people, provided them with a worship book and assist them in finding their seats. Commentators make introductory announcements and read assigned portions of the scripted service.

 

Music Ministries

*Accompanist for Liturgy (Piano, Organ). Audition required. Good sight-reading skills.
*Instrumentalists (Guitar, Flute, Strings, etc.) Skilled musicians willing to prepare music to enhance the liturgies.
*Adult Choir -high school and older, weekly rehearsals, sing at some weekend liturgies and special celebrations. NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME!
*Youth Choir- Grades 7, 8 and high school age students interested in providing more advanced singing and harmonies. Singing ability necessary. Rehearsals as needed. *Children's Choir- Boys and girls from grades 2-6 who enjoy singing. Weekly rehearsals. They sing once or twice a month and for special celebrations.
*Cantors- Depending on a person's musical ability/training, cantors lead the assembly in their sung prayer for weekend liturgies and various other services. Must have a willingness to participate in the Adult Choir and attend the Archdiocesan Cantor School. Scheduling depends on needs and availability.
*Handbell Choir I- Advanced bell choir (high school age and adult) with some musical background. Weekly rehearsals. Play at liturgies based on need and availability.
*Handbell Choir II- Introductory bell choir. Some music background helpful but not necessary. Students (Gr. 6 and up) and adults.
*Melody Chime Choir- Newly forming group for boys and girls in Grades 4 & 5. Must have interest in playing an instrument and participating in some church services.
