Serving the Lord's People in the Lord's HouseThe Gospel of Luke records ten stories of Jesus eating at table with people of every social station of His time: the elite, the common, the outcasts, even sinners--and this in defiance of the religious and social codes of His day which governed almost every detail of daily life including whom it was acceptable to eat with, and the seating of diners at table. The dining habits of Jesus caused much consternation among those concerned with the law: “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" "If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him." "The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal." "They began to grumble saying, 'He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner.'" Scripture scholars see these meals in Luke as a building-up toward, a prelude to what Jesus would do at the Last Supper: He would give His disciples and us a table and a Meal where social status, wealth or poverty, and any other condition by which the world ranks people does not count: a table and a Meal where all sit as equals. At this Last Supper, Jesus also defined Himself: "I am in the midst of you as the one who serves"; and He commanded His disciples: "Let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant." This was the mind of Christ as He summarized His life's work at the end; this was His hope for all those who would gather at His table.
THE LITURGY BOARD The Liturgy Board, in conjunction with St. Julie's Office of Worship and Music, is responsible for serving the liturgical needs of our parish in the spirit of Jesus. All our ministries focus on, flow from, and serve the Eucharistic gathering of the community in one way or another. We are fortunate to have generous parishioners who have volunteered for these ministries in order to build up the Body of Christ in our parish. We are asking you to consider our various ministries prayerfully and discern whether Christ may be inviting you to the service of His people here at St. Julie Parish.
