Getting into heaven
 

A short story with a message. A parable of our modern world.

A man died and stood before the gates of heaven.

St. Peter said, “Here’s how it works. You tell me all the good things you’ve done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in.”

“Okay,” the man said. “I was married to the same woman for 50 years, never cheated on her.”

“Great,” St. Peter said. “That’s three points!”

“Three points?” the man said. “Well, I attended church all my life and tithed faithfully.”

“Terrific!” said St. Peter, “that’s certainly worth a point.”

“One point?” the man said. “How about this; I started a soup kitchen and worked in a homeless shelter.”

“Fantastic, that’s two more points,” St. Peter said.

“TWO POINTS!!” the man cried, “At this rate the only way I’ll get into heaven is by the grace of God!”

“You finally got it! Come on in!” St. Peter said.
