Congratulations Sheila

Cardinal George will bestow the Christifideles award to Sheila Pluchar on October 7 at Holy Name Cathedral. The name of the award, Christifideles, is taken, in part, from the Latin title of one of Pope John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation, Christifideles or “Christ’s Faithful Laity.” The full title of the exhortation is: “On the Vocation and the Mission of the Lay Faithful in the Church and the World.”

The award is meant to honor those lay persons who contribute in an outstanding way to ministry in the Church at the local parish level. Sheila is our Youth Coordinator as well as the parish director for the Protecting God’s Children program. She serves on the social committee. Sheila also has been a catechist in the religious education program for many years, an extraordinary minister of communion and a sacristan.

Her husband, Ed, is an ordained deacon and consequently in Holy Orders. That means that while they both join together in many of these ministries and activities, only Sheila can accept the award—being a lay person.

Congratulations to Sheila and her family as she receives this award.
