We Pray for Our Sick Those who are sick are included in our prayers of intercession at every liturgy.Often family members will call and ask that we pray for a loved one at our weekend Masses. These names are read after the announcements, before the M ass begins. The names are then written in the Book of Intercessions . Even though the names are not read aloud, they are included in the prayer of the faithful at every liturgy. mbered by the parish community
by On-Line Book of Intercessions You may also record your intercessions on this web site. Your prayer intentions are remembered by the parish community by reference.
When someone in our family is sick, it is very comforting to know that our faith community is praying for that person. We get so many calls each week asking us to put a sick person on the prayer list to be read at mass. Since our parish is so big, and because many people are struggling with long term illness, often, the prayer list includes over forty names. Periodically then, we remove names from the list, and enter those names in the Book of Intercessions. Their names are also listed on the sheets on the board in the rotunda area. Then, when we read the names of the sick we begin by saying, “and for all those who are sick whose names are listed in the Book of Intercessions.” Did you know that every morning after the 8:00 a.m. mass, a group of parishioners stay to say the rosary and to pray other devotions? They pray for the needs of the community. There is also a group of parishioners, mostly homebound, whose ministry it is to pray for the needs of the parish and our world. Everyday they pray for the sick in our community. We encourage everyone to stop in the rotunda where you will see a list of those who are sick who need our prayers, and another list of those who have died. If the funeral is pending, the arrangements will be listed. Also, if you visit the Mary Chapel you will see the Book of Intercessions, where you may record any prayer intention. Names that have been removed from the sick list read before mass will have been recorded in this book. So even though you may not hear your loved one’s name read before mass, please know that they remain in our prayers.
