Everything you wanted to know

Why all the fuss over inclusive language?

Grandma would probably lose her uppers if she heard the community praying, "Our Mother, who art in heaven ...." We are not about to come to that. But we know that God our Creator has no human body and so is neither male nor female. We also know that however we speak of God we only scratch the surface of the infinite mystery of God.

God is something like a rock, shield, lamb, lion, mother and father, but obviously infinitely more. The broader our vision, the more of the infinite God we grasp.

The God who is beyond male and female died not only for us men, but for us women, and our salvation.

Language and sensitivities change. These heightened sensitivities must be reflected in our prayer. This is not a sellout to the extremes of the feminist movement, but an embracing, inclusive love for all our members.

Everything you ever wanted to know But thought you should already know, so didn't ask
