The St Julie basketball program was started in the winter of 1999. It consisted of one fourth grade team which came together weekly to practice. The following year the fifth grade St. Julie Jayhawks competed in the South Suburban Catholic Basketball League.

The program has since grown. This past winter four teams competed at the sixth, seventh and eighth grade levels. These teams compete in the Central Catholic Parochial League (CCPL), The South Suburban Catholic Basketball League (SSCBL), and the South Suburban Basketball League (SSBL). The seventh and eighth grade teams compete in several tournaments including those hosted by the local Catholic high schools. This past season the eighth grade blue team finished third out of sixteen teams at the Marion Catholic Tournament. Last year, as seventh graders, they finished fourth out of thirty-two teams at the St. Rita Invitational. The eighth grade white team finished second this season in the SSCBL and the seventh graders went to the final four in the SSBL.

Playing for the Jayhawks provides an opportunity for players and their families to meet and know other St. Julie parishioners. It also provides players with the chance to improve their basketball skills and compete against other Catholic League teams from across the city and suburbs. Next year we hope to add a fifth grade team and possibly a fourth grade team. If there is enough interest for a girls program we would like to start that up as well.
