Charitable Giving

Catechism of the Catholic Church

1826 "If I . . . have not charity," says the Apostle, "I am nothing." Whatever my privilege, service, or even virtue, "if I . . . have not charity, I gain nothing." Charity is superior to all the virtues. It is the first of the theological virtues: "So faith, hope, charity abide, these three. But the greatest of these is charity."

Our first duty as Catholics is to support our parish, diocese and the church as a worldwide entity. Beyond this normal support there are many opportunities for us share our many gifts with those less fortunate.

There are Mission Sundays at which a mission organization is invited to our parish to tell us about their work and give us the opportunity to support them.

 Appeal

The Apostles gave up everything to follow Jesus. You are not asked to do the same. Rather, you are asked to spend some time reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal.

While funding a number of Archdiocesan ministries, the Annual Catholic Appeal is also the largest philanthropic source of financial support for ALL of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is much different than a one time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift, payable over five months. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. He has given you all that you have. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout the world are given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Sometimes it is difficult to envision how one pledge can help an organization the size of our Archdiocese, how it can make a real difference. But each pledge does make a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese. After our parish goal is reached in cash, 100% of the additional funds come back to our parish to help to fund our needs.

There are many other Catholic Missions worthy of our support. They assist many in need as they propagate the Catholic faith around the globe.

Our St Julie Peace and Justice Ministry works to promote Fair Trade:

The fair choice is the right choice. The daily decisions you make as a consumer can make a real, positive difference in the world. When you choose to buy fair trade products you are making a strong connection with hardworking, but impoverished workers around the world.

There are many other worthwhile Charities addressing the needs of the community and the world. It is imposable to list them all here. Our parish Human Concerns Ministries and the Youth Ministries are actively supporting several local organizations.

You are also invited to consider Stewardship as a way to share the gifts of God in your life. Remember that sharing your time and talent is also a work of charity.
There are many opportunities to do this within the parish through its many ministries. Visit our Ministries pages and find one or more that suit your interests and abilities. You help is always needed ... open your horizons.
