St. Julie Billiart Parish
Into the New
Millennium ...
-
We accomplish in our lifetime
only a tiny fraction of the magnificent enterprise that is God's work.
-
We plant the seeds that one day
will grow.
-
We water seeds already planted,
knowing that they hold future promise.
-
We lay foundations that will
need further development.
-
We provide yeast that produces
effects far beyond our capabilities.
It may be incomplete,
We may never see the end results,
but that is the difference between the Master
Builder and the worker
We are workers, not Master
Builders,
ministers, not Messiahs.
We are prophets of a future that is not our own.
Amen.
Archbishop Oscar
Romero
To me, these words of the martyred Archbishop Romero
speak so eloquently about what a parish is to be as we enter a new
millennium. We commit ourselves to use God's gift of this time to continue
the work of Jesus; the work of planting, watering, laying foundations, and
providing the yeast, not knowing the end results, but trusting that God's
Kingdom will flourish in our midst.
