St. Julie Religious Education Program

Preparation for First Communion and Confirmation for children.

“The Good God asks us to sow, and God undertakes
to give growth and make the seed bear fruit
in its season.”

----St. Julie Billiart

Philosophy

In the Acts of the Apostles, we read that members of the early Christian community "devoted themselves to the teaching of the Apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers." (Act 2:42) Since then, the Church has emphasized the importance of these same elements: WORD, WORSHIP, COMMUNITY, and SERVICE in all its catechetical documents.

At St. Julie Billiart, we foster a catechesis, faithful and effective, which integrates these four dimensions in all its processes and wherein young people are introduced to lifelong faith formation and true discipleship.  We take a holistic view which includes and reinforces the living faith of parents, families, extended families, catechists and parish community.

Statement of Catechetical Purpose

Rooted in the Gospel and tradition, and guided by the Spirit, the parish community of St. Julie Billiart offers Religious education in which

the seed of a personal relationship with Jesus is nurtured within each young person through prayer, ongoing study, scripture stories, and the practice of charity.

faith and life experience are integrated through discussion, reflection, and meaningful social response.

the sacramental and liturgical life of the Church is experienced and celebrated.

Objectives

To form and sustain a vibrant, welcoming community of faith where children are embraced as children.

To provide a prayerful environment where opportunities for stewardship and discipleship are readily available.

To foster a sense of mission, social justice, and concern for each other.

To promote regular and meaningful participation in the sacraments and worship.

To encourage, support, and assist parents in their privilege of preparing their children for the sacraments.

Registration & Schedule of Classes

Registration is done by mail in the spring for the current families.  This annual re-registration includes updating essential family information, the emergency file, and custodial status as changes occur.  We follow the same age requirements as local school districts.  For the registration of a child entering the program for the first time, or for a child who is transferring into the program, the parent/guardian presents a Baptismal certificate and a transfer report.

All Classes are held in Devine Activity Center according to the schedule on page two.
